Voices Show
Universal themes are perpetuated through stories.
The main idea looks at the ways in which universal themes that express values and beliefs, can be passed on through performance media. Spoken or sung, danced or acted, performed reverently or just for fun, every culture has traditions of storytelling.
We will consider how performance can help people to understand who they are. Just as there are a myriad of ways to reveal something about ourselves or our cultures, so there are an infinite number of ways to interpret an event according to your perspective.
This year's performance will be 101 Dalmatians, the classic children's story about a super-villain who wants to turn adorable Dalmatian puppies into coats. It features themes of love, family, greed, courage and good versus evil. The children will have been learning how ideas can be successfully conveyed through performance. This makes the show part of the curriculum and represents the end point of a collaboration between student peers, art and classroom teachers and also with performing arts coaches from outside school.
We hope the “Voices” show will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen. This year we are unable to produce a live performance because of Covid restrictions. Instead, we will produce a virtual show. This will go live on Wednesday 24th November at 6:30pm and you will be able to watch from the comfort of your own homes. What's more, you will be able to watch as often as you like, so although the format is different this year, we hope it remains an enjoyable experience! It is predominantly a dance piece with every student involved dancing or narrating. We will contact you after the break regarding costumes for the show.
