Literacy

 Independent Literacy Project

This unit is an opportunity for the children to choose a genre that they would like to spend some time on. Children might decide to write or develop an aspect of reading. For example they may write a fantasy story or create a cartoon strip. As a reader a child might decide to compare two different books by the same author or create a diorama based on a particular scene.

Key learning

Students will immerse themselves in reading and writing to generate some thing creative that showcases their love for literacy. Imagination and originality are key elements of their projects and could be as diverse as:

  • finishing a story they started earlier in the year
  • writing in a new genre
  • creating a book report
  • bringing characters from different books together in a new story
  • changing the end of a book they have read
  • dramatising a key scene in a favourite book
  • creating a 3D moment from a story and summarising why it's important
  • plotting the story mountain in a book or a series
Students will pursue the thing they love most in Literacy and generate a beautiful product to be shared with classmates at the end of the term.
